From 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' by J K Rowling.
A quick sketch done just now to fit in how I'm linking this on my LJ. How do I Love Photoshop and my Scanner? Let me Count the Ways... (the top left corner e.g. is darkened with the copy stamp thingy )
I always wonder... so this is (as far as I remember) reasonably accurate - Snape is clutching Harry's robes, Harry has the flask thing to catch Snape's memories in. But if somebody didn't know the scene from the book, how much could they read into this picture? Harry could have poisoned Snape with stuff from the bottle, or jabbed him in the neck with his wand, or else be trying to save him... I don't know. Am I expecting too much from an illustration when I want it to tell the whole story as written, readable without the text? Or is that something 'illustrations' are exempt from?
Yeah, you'd probably have to read the book if you have no idea what's going on in the illustration. Unless... you draw it in sequence or something. I dunno. *shrug*
Anyway, this is GORGEOUS. I lovelovelove it. A+++

Nice drawing and really interesting idea about illustrations...I think it's a good thing if an illustration from a book can take on a life of its own and have multiple interpretations Obviously as long as it still gives the original message...
I think with this type of illustration its pretty much impossible to "tell the whole story as written, readable without the text" as someone who hadn't read the book wouldn't understand things like bottles being used to collect memories, who the characters were etc.
Superb composition, I like its grittyness. From Harry's expression, I'd never think he poisoned him, but this may be a scene that can't be told without the book. Snape looks so close to death it hurts to look at him.

Thanks so much! It kind of hurt - a bit - to draw Snape like that, too. But I was listening to baroque cantatas, the lyrics of which are always stuff like "I look forward to my death" and "I shall quickly end my earthly life" and "I am but a worm wallowing in its blood"
wow Well, at least he looks alot more relaxed than usual. I think Harry never looked better, and I like how he's framing Snape. The fact that Harry's the same size as Snape (perhaps even a bit larger) may somehow diminish Snape, and sort of brings home the fact that he's a dead man, the light will go out very soon. I wish I could say it better.

Harry`s expression is of surprise and it is very fitting... it doesn`t look like he wants to kill him... and Snape looks about to die, desperate to speak... amazing illustration and well done...
I think that Harry's expression and Severus's makes you see that Harry is attempting to save Sev and that Sev is regretting everything. And you can see the puncture wound ;]
The title is important and explains a lot. Of course we can think that Harry is saying "look at me" here and not Sev - Ok but if someone watches this, there is a good chance that he knows about the scene And this is an excellent and impressive illustration for it. Sev is simply incredible. I love Harry too - and I'm amazed by the fact your Harry is the older version than your younger Harries - I mean, you really well draw respecting his evolution. Well, all what you draw is really well done, so....
