Haha, cool idea :) Is Cephalopodomancy a real word or made up?

I've always seen the films (and actually film adaptations in general) as a kind of "moving-illustration" of the books: a chance to see the characters, settings, and a couple of your favorite scenes in animation, but no more. There will always be lots of missing scenes and forgotton characters but that's what happens with films. It will never be 100% faithful and you've just gotta learn to live with that. They add something to the overall experience of the books and the world JK created, but could NEVER replace them entirely and they're not meant to. I think people forget that sometimes. Sorry if that sounds like a rant, I'm not having a go at you personally lol, just at people who hate the films because they're not identical to the books.

Personally, I'm REALLY excited for DH, because even if there are parts that suck, it's still Harry Potter, it's still the world I love, and it wont be the end of the world because we'll always have the books :)

I'm not looking for a 100% translation, I'm looking for a coherent story and witty script :P They can make the Weasleys brunette and Dumbledore bald, as long as there's a basic faithfulness to the overall storyline... well, even without that, something that isn't just spooky(tm) or magic(tm) without any inherent logic and makes sense in itself. Which the HP films just don't. Certain scenes or designs individually are fine, they just don't add up.

Eh, I'm still going to see DH, and probably more than once. Just so I know all the details to complain about, y'know... ;)

"They can make the Weasleys brunette and Dumbledore bald"

Actually, that was one thing that DID really bug me about the films, is that Harry ended up with brown hair and blue eyes when he should have had black hair and green eyes. I know he was alergic to the contacts they gave him but seriously, in this age of digital special effects how hard would it be to change his eye colour? And honestly, how much does a bottle of black hairdye cost?!?

"Eh, I'm still going to see DH, and probably more than once. Just so I know all the details to complain about, y'know..."

haha me too. I actually saw the last one so many times that I can say almost all the lines from memory ;)

I thought HBP was outstanding. I know I'm in the minority of fans that actually liked it, but in my opinion, the films keep getting better as the actors evolve. and the previews for DH give me the chills & I have a good sense of whether a film is "good" or not just based on previews alone.

anyway, this is hilarious. :)

I liked bits of HBP - most bits in fact! I always like parts of all the movies, and I do think the last two were significantly better. But as a whole... not really. The trailers for DH look pretty much the same to me - some things look awesome, some make me want to bang my head on the desk...

yeahhh, I agree that there are parts that make me want to bang my head, too. I still think that Chamber of Secrets is the best film out of all of them, because it was very faithful to the book & let's face it, Kenneth Branagh made that movie with his performance as Gilderoy. I was extremely disappointed when they switched directors on Prisoner of Azkaban, and I absolutely loathe that film, it is the worst out of all of them by far in my opinion (and it was my favorite book! I was so mad!). the ending is amazing, but other than that, it's just so bad. the same goes for GoF, really. great ending, bad whole. they definitely started getting it again with OotP.

heh, sorry for the rant. I have strong opinions about the films. I was actually a convert because of CoS; before I saw it I was avoiding harry potter completely.

oh & my comment was more directed at all the other comments saying how bad the films are, than at you in particular. it annoys me because, this is all we're gonna get. and they are obviously making a HUGE effort to produce these films. so if they have flaws, big deal. at least we aren't waiting 30+ years for a decent film adaptation like with LOTR.

oh seriously, I'd rather wait 30+ years to get an adaptation like the LOTR films than have WB trademark Harry Potter and spew forth this garbage... Preferably do a John Howe and be involved in the concept art myself!! But the design department on the HP films is actually quite cool, apart from the architecture, and the bloody uniforms.

I absolutely loathe that film, it is the worst out of all of them by far in my opinion Ah thanks for this!! You are rare. I get the feeling the majority of people think this is somehow a genius of a film, when it is totally incoherent and makes no whit of sense and renders practically invisible the most important part of the storyline, i.e. Marauders. I didn't go to see the film is the cinemas, because it's my favourite book too. It took me three efforts on DVD to manage to watch it through.

this is all we're gonna get.
aargh, I hope not! I'm holding out for a proper new version in a couple of decades.

I guess I'm less optimistic, film-wise. I'm a pretty confirmed film buff & have seen many adaptations of things, and except for the made-for-t.v. movies that were based off of Stephen King's books - specifically The Stand and The Shining - & LOTR - I have yet to see an adaptation of a book that I feel is just as compelling & emotionally striking as it is on paper. and King's films are that way because he was the producer & often times the director on many of them. oh, IT is outstanding, too.

I would wait that long, too. I just don't think the general population would, or the children that grew up reading HP would. I was an adult well before Harry Potter started, so I also have a different perspective of it. I'm less emotionally tied to it than I think a kid that had it as a first book would be. strangely enough though, my birthday is very close to Harry's. I was born in April of 1980. :D

anyway, I do hope that there's another adaptation sometime in the future, I just wouldn't be surprised if it never happened. and I don't know if I could accept anyone else as these characters. in my opinion, other than Harry, the films are excellently cast. and I admire that they are so faithful about having an all-British cast. it's the special effects & the plotline jumps that bother me, all in all.

yeah, PoA is awful! it also took me many viewings to even be able to get through it without cringing. gah, but I love Gary as Sirius so much. he really brought that character to life for me. the way he looks at Harry is exactly as I felt it in the book.

oh, definitely! I just saw that on t.v. the other day & I still like the scene but think it could've been done a lot better. it wasn't how I pictured it at all in the book. D:

Simply hilarious!
And I'm optimistic and hope that the film will be great (as it better should be, seeing that we must wait so long for part two to be released)!
